Plastic Odyssey Returns to France, InovaYa partners with the ship’s community tour

On October1, 2022, Plastic Odyssey set sail for the regions most affected by plastic pollution. Its goal is to find concrete solutions to combat this global crisis, as well as to test, on a small scale, new replicable models for reducing plastic pollution wherever possible. After a three-year mission around the world, 30 stops, and three continents explored, Plastic Odyssey is back for a public tour in France.

A partnership with Plastic Odyssey focused on sustainable water management

With the shared goal of protecting our environment and water resources, InovaYa is joining forces with the mission and dynamic team at Plastic Odyssey to combat marine plastic pollution.

Plastic Odyssey and InovaYa are joining forces to promote the importance of sustainable natural resource management:

  • Plastic Odyssey, through its laboratory for low-tech recycling methods
  • InovaYa, with its onboard water treatment technologies and the involvement of Thibault Roudier, a former InovaYa ambassador, who is on board to raise awareness about water conservation.

A meaningful partnership for the InovaYa team.

Making ballast water safe for drinking on the Plastic Odyssey

In October 2022, our machines will be loaded onto the Plastic Odyssey with the aim of to supply the crew with drinking water throughout the entire expedition. Indeed, the units unYo ® and aYa® produced more than 44 cubic meters of drinking water during this expedition. By filtering out viruses, bacteria, and heavy metals, They allow the crew to avoid buying plastic water bottles, which are the only other option for obtaining drinking water on board. 44 cubic meters—that amounts to About 900 plastic water bottles saved every month! More than 35,000 plastic water bottles have been saved since the Plastic Odyssey set sail.

In addition, our two treatment units now make it possible to produce drinking water from the ship’s ballast water. The impact has been positive, with more than 2,000 cubic meters of water treated.

The Great Citizen Tour Plastic Odyssey's major tour of France

After three years at sea, Plastic Odyssey is returning to France for a major tour open to the public, visiting ports across France from April to July 2026.

Their goals:

  • Share their findings from these past three years of exploration
  • Document local initiatives discovered at each stop
  • Continue building a plastic-free future

The stops on their tour in France are as follows:

  • Marseille: April 7–14
  • Bordeaux: April 25–May 7
  • La Rochelle: May 8–15
  • Nantes: May 16–28
  • Lorient: June 8–11
  • Concarneau: June 12–14
  • Le Havre: June 19–23
  • Saint-Malo: June 25–July 7

At each port of call, the program includes a tour of the ship and a “Zero Plastic” village, where visitors can discover ingenious ways to eliminate plastic from their daily lives. A “solutions mural” will be created at each stop to help everyone understand the causes of plastic pollution and connect them to possible solutions. In addition, an exhibition will immerse visitors in the world of the expedition and scientific research. And much more!
